Record Breakers – Summer Reading Challenge 2015

All the staff at Canterbury Library are gearing up for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge – Record Breakers.  Every summer all public libraries in Kent join in with the Summer Reading Challenge which is a national initiative run by The Reading Agency.  This is the biggest reading promotion that we do in Kent and is a fun activity aimed at keeping children reading for pleasure over the summer holidays.

This year the theme is Record Breakers and we are encouraging children aged 4 to 11 to read six library books during the summer. You need to be a member of the library – it is very easy to join – and are given a Record Breakers poster when you start the Challenge.  You collect stickers to go on the poster after reading two, four and six books – some of the stickers are really smelly!  There are additional incentives to collect such as a bookmark and wristband.  Everyone completing the Challenge wins a certificate and gold medal to mark their achievement.

Record Breakers launched on the 11 July and runs until 12 September, so there is plenty of time to read your six books.  We will also be holding some arts and craft sessions run by Aim4.  These will take place in the children’s library on 31 July, 14 August and 28 August from 1pm to 4pm and you need to be taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge to join in the sessions.

So come along and take part – it’s fun, it’s free, it’s local!
